Social Concerns of Embracing New Technologies Too Quickly

Everyday in the news papers, TV and Internet we see new electronic gadgets and here of scientific discovery using the latest and greatest machines and gadgets. Many are concerned about this as millions spend hours in front of video games, television, talking on cell phones or haphazardly strolling into traffic dancing to the music on their new iPod. Many critics of new technology have stated;

?One social concern that we have been thinking about recently is our tendency, especially in the United States, to embrace technology just because it is available with little concern as to the consequences.?

Now then although this is of concern, I beg to differ in a few regards. Actually from what I can see this is not truly a fair assessment, because if you look at Japan and Europe and their personal tech devices they are ahead of the US Populations and their cell phones, gadgets and toys are superior to ours. Indeed, China would be too, except their country leadership fears it will over take them.

We should embrace the forward progression of the species when it makes sense. Although I am not a video game player; too busy living in the real world a warp speed, I can say that I had the very first cell phones and repeater phones in my business and they helped me immensely, in fact at the time, we did not even have fax machines and it was difficult to send information.

Technology does not kill society; people kill society. Technology therefore is neither good or bad, it just is. It can become either good or bad depending on how it is used. So before we condemn the latest and greatest technologies available in the present period, we ought to be considering that fact. Think on this in 2006.
